Replacing windows and doors is quite an expense and when you buy good quality products, you shouldn’t expect to have to replace them for quite some time. However, as with anything, they will need to be cared for and maintained to ensure that they last.
Here are some tips to help you maintain your windows and doors so that you can get the most out of them for as long as possible.
Cleaning the uPVC
Simply use a soft cloth with some warm soapy water. This should be enough to remove any dirt and grime. There are options to buy specialist uPVC cream cleaner if you want to go that extra mile and have a more professional finish. (Available from Eurocell Building Plastics)
Never use any solvents or abrasive cloths
Both of these items can damage the uPVC and should be avoided at all costs.
Oil the lock inside the handle
Be careful not to get any oil on the glass. Spray some oil onto the window key and insert it into the handle. Move the key around inside the lock to help spread the oil. Wipe away any excess oil and carry this out every 6 months.
Oil the hinges
Again being careful not to get any oil on the glass, open the window and spray some oil onto the locking mechanism and onto the hinges to ensure that everything is moving freely. Ensure to wipe away any excess oil and also carry this out every 6 months.
Oiling the moving parts frequently and only using a soft cloth and soapy water is the best way to ensure the longevity of your uPVC windows and doors. If you have any other questions or would like any more information on caring for your windows and doors, don’t hesitate to contact us.
