In a world of expensive phones, cars and computers we all worry about the security of our homes. The good thing is, there are plenty of ways that we can ensure that we keep our homes safeand secure so that we can sleep at night knowing our family and our valuables are safe.
Here is a list of 7 things that you can do to keep intruders out and keep your home safe:
1. Install CCTV cameras.
The presence of cameras on your home can act as a great deterrent for any potential intruders. CCTV cameras have been brought to the mass market over the past few years and are a lot more accessible and reasonably.
2. Install laminated glass to windows and doors.
Whether you are ordering new windows and doors or just replacing the glass, a great option for increasing the security of your property is to use laminated glass to the outside pane of your double glazed units. Laminated glass is much harder to break and the sound of someone trying to break it would likely the alarm long before anyone would get the chance to enter your home.
3. Limit Access to the Property.
It may sound obvious but ensure that all entryways to the property have the appropriate security measures in place. Ensure back gates are locked and that any easily accessible windows or doors are locked. Sometimes the simplest of measures are the most effective.
4. Install an alarm system.
Having a house alarm is a great asset for keeping your property safe, often the box itself (as with CCTV cameras) will act as a deterrent for potential intruders.
5. Don’t tell the world you are going on holiday.
It may be tempting to post on social media about your upcoming trip of a lifetime, but it may also serve as an invite for someone to pay an unwanted visit to your home while you are away. Be wise with who can see what you are posting and don’t leave yourself vulnerable!
7. Install an approved composite door.
Many composite doors out there are now tested to the highest security standards. For example, the composite doors that we supply conform to Secured by Design standards (when requested). This means that they have been through rigorous tests to ensure that the highest security standards have been achieved.
8. Keep valuables out of view.
Another point that may seem obvious but is often overlooked is to ensure that any valuables cannot be seen through doors and windows. Leaving valuable items for all to see is much more inviting for a potential intruder and certainly leaves your home more vulnerable.
